A fine silver goblet, one of only 800 made to commemorate the 800th anniversary of St. Mary's Church, Melton Mowbray by fine silversmith A E Jones. Each goblet made is assigned a year from the Church's inception in 1171, up to the anniversary date in 1971. This goblet is numbered AD 1388.
The goblet is designed as a replica of the 17th century chalice at St. Mary's and is inscribed Melton Mowbray 1631 to the front, with the Latin inscription Calix Benedictionis to the back (which means blessed chalice) just as the original and in the same naive font.
Condition - Good. Comes with certificate of authenticity as pictured, but no case.
